Office of the Chief Justice is seeking applications from South African with Grade 12 for the position of Judge’s Secretary [x4 posts].

Location: Gauteng and Eastern Cape, South Africa

The Office of the Chief Justice is inviting suitably qualified applicants to apply for the position of Judge’s Secretary. There are multiple vacancies available. Here are the details:

Positions:

  • Judge’s Secretary (Ref No: 2024/06/OCJ)
  • Judge’s Secretaries (Ref No: 2024/07/OCJ) – 2 Positions
  • Judges Secretary (Ref No: 2024/08/OCJ)

Type of Appointment:

  • 3-Year Contract

Salary:

  • R294 321 – R343 815 per annum (Level 07), plus 37% in lieu of benefits.
  • The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement.

Locations:

  1. Gauteng Division High Court: Johannesburg
  2. Eastern Cape Division of The High Court: Bhisho
  3. Gauteng Division High Court: Pretoria

Closing Date:

  • 02 February 2024

Requirements:

  • Matric certificate
  • 1 to 3 years’ secretarial experience or as an office assistant in a legal environment
  • A valid driver’s license
  • An LLB degree or a minimum of 20 modules completed towards an LLB, BA/BCOM Law degree (added advantage)
  • Results must accompany the application
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to pass a typing test

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend and screen all incoming and outgoing calls
  • Diarize appointments and meetings of the Judge
  • Type judgments and file correspondences accordingly
  • Ensure signed judgments and orders are sent to the typist and the Library
  • Receive, screen, and attend to all visitors
  • Record and file all incoming and outgoing documents
  • Order and collect stationery for the Judge
  • Prepare court rolls for Opposed Motion and Urgent Court
  • Update the register/template of reserved judgments
  • Inform parties involved of time and date when reserved judgments will be handed down
